South Downs Leisure to operate Adur Leisure Facilities

South Downs Leisure confirmed to reopen Adur leisure sites

Following recent news that South Downs Leisure were the preferred operator for 3 Adur leisure sites, we are thrilled to now confirm that we will be taking on these sites later this year.

The 3 centres; Lancing Manor, Southwick Leisure Centre and Wadurs Swimming Pool in Shoreham, have been closed since the first lockdown started on 23rd March and did not reopen as original operators Adur Community Leisure (an arm of Impulse Leisure) sadly liquidated during the first enforced closure period.

Unanimous votes to proceed were granted at both South Downs Leisure’s Board of Directors meeting on 2nd November, and Adur Council’s Cabinet at a meeting on Tuesday 3rd November and we are now keen to move forward with plans to reopen the centres for use again.

The proposal is for South Downs Leisure to take over the Adur sites towards the end of the year, with a plan for a staggered opening of the 3 centres during the new year, hopefully starting with Lancing Manor at the end of January 2021, although official opening dates are still to be confirmed.

Duncan Anderson, South Downs Leisure’s CEO, commented: “This is an exciting time for us all at South Downs Leisure, not just the challenge for staff, but also the benefits for our amazing members and hopefully gives light at the end of a tunnel for the Adur community too, in what has been an otherwise challenging period.”

This showcases our commitment to providing inclusive, community-based leisure services to the public. Our mission to keep more people more active more often is at the heart of this decision and we are eager to bring this ethos to new communities in our area.”

We’ve worked very closely with Adur Council to create a robust model that gives huge benefit to users across both areas, with the plans to offer use of 7 sites and all the services they include, across both Worthing and Adur for all our current and new members to enjoy – instead of 4 and 3 sites respectively.

On top of the this, the new venture will also create a number of new jobs in the local community as well.

If you used the sites Pre-Covid and you are interested in returning back to the centres, please contact our membership team with any enquiries on so that we can build the programme in advance of opening for each centre going forward.

We will be unveiling further details for reopening of the centres, proposed service offerings and more in due course. Don’t forget that we are also offering a wide array of free-for-all online classes and more during this 2nd lockdown period, so do keep an eye on their app, website and social media platforms.
